Northbrook Students Send Lucky Cranes to Tornado Victims

First graders at Hickory Point School folded 1,000 origami cranes for the tornado-torn community of Moore, Okla.

Students at Northbrook’s Hickory Point School made 1,000 origami cranes for residents in Moore, Okla., where a massive tornado ripped through May 20, severely damaging homes and businesses, as a get well wish for the tornado-torn community as it rebuilds, Northbrook Star reported.

First-grader Andrew York came up with the idea after hearing the news on a car radio and thought the Japanese legend, where a get-well wish is granted if 1,000 cranes were made, would help Moore residents, “My whole class of 21 helped. The wish was ‘We hope you get much better soon,’” York told the website.
