Spartan Roundup 10/31: Girls XC Sends 3 To State, Volleyball Falls in Regional

Glenbrook North fall sports are winding down, but winter sports are right around the corner.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL - GBN's positive season came to an end after a in the Evanston Regional final Thursday night. The Spartans (20-7) won 20 games and went undefeated in conference, but winning a regional was one of the team's preseason goals. Evanston outside hitter Casey Durham had 14 kills to lead the Wildkits (26-9) to the win. GBN hung tough, but made more service errors (7) than normal and Evanston was able to make runs late in each game. Patricia Hare led the Spartans with seven kills while Kate Kamin had six and Whitney Landman added five.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY - The Spartans came close going back to state as a team, but fell eight points behind Maine South for the fifth and final qualifying spot. Valerie Bobart, Ellery Marrinan and Katherine Weber . Juniors Weber and Bobart head to Peoria's Detweiller Park for the third straight year while Marrinan, a sophomore, makes her second trip to state.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY - Junior Danny Cheung was the Spratans' lone representative at the Niles West Sectional. Cheung took 93rd in his first sectional race, ending his season.

BOYS HOCKEY - The Spartans split a pair of High School Invitational Tournament games, a 5-3 win over Providence Sunday and a 5-4 loss to Fenwick on Monday. On Wednesday GBN stayed perfect in Metro North play with a 6-1 win over New Trier White. Juniors Garrison Sanipass and Ryan Maksimovic have led the Spartans (10-6-2, 5-0) with four goals each in five Metro North games. This week the Spartans play Lake Forest and New Trier Blue in conference games following a game with Stevenson on Tuesday.
