Spartan Roundup 9/26: Girls Volleyball Remains Undefeated in Conference

Girls cross country also took first at a quad meet.

FOOTBALL - Deerfield dealt a big blow to the Spartans' playoff hopes in the Central Suburban League North opener. The host Friday night despite Curt Petty passing for 154 yards and a touchdown. Junior kicker Montana Paley made her first varsity field goal, a 32-yarder, in the first half and Grant Rushing added a touchdown in the second half, but it wasn't enough. The Spartans (1-4, 0-1) hope to end a three-game losing streak at Niles North on Friday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL - The Spartans picked up their Monday by sweeping Highland Park 25-15, 25-18. Sarah Winter led with seven kills. The next day Loyola broke the winning streak 25-20, 25-18. bounced back Wednesday with another conference win, this time 25-10, 25-15 over Deerfield. At 4-0 in conference the Spartans (12-6) sit all alone in first place and will put that record on the line at Maine East today.

BOYS SOCCER - The rough run in conference for the Spartans continued with a 2-0 loss to Deerfield last Tuesday. is now 0-3-1 in the CSL North and closes out conference play against Maine East tomorrow. They hosted the Invite last weekend and took fifth place. The Spartans lost to Glenbrook South 5-1 in the quarterfinals, but beat Wheeling 3-0 before lightning ended the match and defeated Lisle 6-1 to win the consolation bracket. GBN (5-6-2) travels to St. Louis for another tournament this weekend.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY - Thanks to a 1-2-3 finish from Val BobartEllery Marrinan and Katherine Weber, the girls team took first at a conference quad meet with Deerfield, Main East and Niles North. Both cross country teams travel to Highland Park another conference quad tomorrow and head to Peoria for an invite Saturday.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY - The Spartan boys squad lost to all three teams at the conference quad meet. Dan Cheung finished 17th to earn North's top time.
