Spartan Roundup 9/5: Football's First Win
This week in Glenbrook North sports includes the football team's first win of the season plus a third place finish by the girls volleyball team in a New Trier tournament.
FOOTBALL - The Spartans took a trip to Chicago and picked up their first win of the season. GBN beat Lane Tech 42-12 on the North Side Friday night. Chad Bruce and Grant Rushing had big games for the Spartans (1-1), who now put their attention towards Glenbrook South. The district rivals will meet in Northbrook this Friday.
BOYS SOCCER - Senior winger Michael Simon scored the first goal and assisted the second in at Rolling Meadows Tuesday. Simon, a team captain, will be key to the team's success after the loss of 12 seniors from last year. Ryan Bunney also had a goal and an assist and Mitch Shapiro picked up his second shutout of the season. GBN tied Carmel 1-1 on Thursday. The Spartans (2-1-1) visit a talented New Trier team on Tuesday before a game in Lake Forest Saturday.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL - Over the weekend GBN finished fourth at the New Trier Summer's End Tournament. They went 3-0 in pool play before losing to New Trier (25-21, 25-19) in the semifinals and Loyola (25-7, 25-22) for third place. Earlier in the week they lost 27-25, 25-20 to Mundelein. The Spartans (4-3) play Libertyville and Glenbrook South on the road before competing in the Vernon Hills Invite on Saturday.
