Spartan Roundup April 4

Spring break meant there was less action, but a few teams played this weekend.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL - Glenbrook North took sixth in the 24-team field of Wheaton Warrenville South's Tiger Classic. On Friday they picked up pool play wins over Brother Rice (26-24, 23-25, 25-18) and Wheaton North (25-9, 25-10) to advance to Saturday's Gold Flight. In the quarterfinals they lost to Lincoln-Way East 25-17, 17-25, 25-23 but bounced back with a 25-17, 25-15 win over Oak Park-River Forest. Buffalo Grove beat GBN for fifth place by a score of 25-20, 25-22. This week the Spartans will play rival Glenbrook South a visit on Friday.

SOFTBALL - The girls returned from a layoff of more than two weeks to sweep Prospect in a doubleheader on Saturday. Sarah Koulogeorge drove in the game-winning run in game one to cap a comeback 2-1 and the Spartans followed that up with an 11-6 victory in the finale. GBN (3-2) has a busy schedule this week, with midweek games against Waukegan, Fremd and Niles West before competing in the Palatine Quad on Saturday.

BOYS GYMNASTICS - Led by sophomore Nate Elfant's fifth place finish in the all-around, Glenbrook North finished sixth at the Niles West Invite on Saturday. Junior Jared Gimbel took tenth. The Spartans host GBS Thursday and head to Mundelein for an invite on Friday.

With the school on spring break, it was a slow week for sports but things get into full swing this week. The baseball team plays five non-conference opponents. Boys lacrosse has conference games against New Trier and Deerfield. Girls soccer's home opener is Wednesday against New Trier. Girls lacrosse and both water polo teams play Glenbrook South on Thursday.
