Girls soccer picked up another tournament win and baseball remains undefeated against teams from Illinois.

BASEBALL - The wins keep rolling in for the Glenbrook North baseball team. A capped off a 4-0 week, all against conference opponents. Alex Hermeling continued his fantastic season with an 11 strikeout complete game against the Trevians. Catcher Jason Scholl doubled in the game-winning run in the eighth. The Spartans beat Deerfield 5-0 on Monday and followed that up with a pair of wins over Niles North by scores of 15-2 and 3-2. Sean Thomas, Henry Erickson and Peter Resnick picked up the wins on the mound. At 18-1 and 7-0 in league play, GBN is playing as well as anyone in the area.

SOFTBALL - Jenny McTague hit a grand slam against Hersey on Friday in the Spartans' 6-1 win, but it was the team's only win of the week. Losses to Maine West, 6-2, and Loyola, 8-5, were the team's first in a few weeks. The loss to the Warriors has the two teams tied atop the CSL North. GBN (8-6-1, 3-1) plays Niles North, Highland Park and Stevenson this week, all on the road.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL - The Spartans once again fell victim to a surprise upset. On Tuesday they lost in three games at Niles North (25-14, 18-25, 26-28). A Thursday win at Maine East (25-23, 25-16) and a Highland Park win over Niles North created a three-way tie atop the CSL North. The three teams are 3-1 in league play and still play each contender once more. Coach Chris Cooper is trying to shuffle the lineup to get more consistent results and Glen Song stepped up against Maine East. Deerfield and Maine West will try to knock the Spartans (16-6) off the top spot in the league before the GBN Invite this weekend.

GIRLS SOCCER - Paul Vignocchi's team is on a roll. After hoisting the Glenbrook Cup a week ago, they won their bracket at the Tournament of Champions in Burlington, IA, this weekend. The team smacked Horlick (WI) 6-0 on Friday and beat Pattonville (MO) and Lockport by 3-2 scores on Saturday. Montana Paley scored in the final minute of regular time in the final against Lockport. The Spartans (13-2-1, 2-0), who beat Maine East 8-0 earlier in the week, haven't lost in almost a month. They received the No. 3 seed in the Glenbrook South Sectional (state bracket).

BOYS LACROSSE - After a slow start, GBN couldn't come back against highly ranked Lyons Township on Tuesday and . Ryan Maksimovic scored five goals and assisted on three more. Tommy Chapman scored three and had an assist. The Spartans (9-2, 4-1) bounced back with a resounding 15-3 win at Maine South. This week they play Glenbrook South on Tuesday and Loyola on Thursday in another top ten match up before hosting Stevenson for Senior Night on Saturday.

GIRLS LACROSSE - The girls went 2-2 with a conference win. The Spartans lost to Oak Park-River Forest 19-15 and Lake Zurich 16-14, but picked up wins over Vernon Hills, 12-9, and Deerfield, 17-7. The win over Deerfield moved GBN to 3-1 in CSL play. The Spartans (7-9) have three games coming up this week, including a Tuesday game at nationally ranked New Trier.

BOYS GYMNASTICS - Ryan Dul's group took fourth at the CSL meet on Thursday. Nate Elfant's 9.0 on vault earned him a share of first place. Elfant also took fourth in all around and placed in the top five on floor and rings. Jared Gimbel tied for third on the vault for the team's only other top five spot. The focus now turns to the Mundelein Sectional on Saturday.

BOYS WATER POLO - With the conference tournament coming up this weekend, the boys had a pair of non-conference games against Metea Valley and Lake Forest. Both ended in defeat. The Spartans (7-18, 2-6), who finished seventh in the nine team CSL, will host the CSL tourney.

GIRLS WATER POLO - GBN got back to .500 on the season by beating Metea 9-6 and Lake Forest 12-9. The Spartans (10-10, 5-2) sit just outside illpolo.com's top 25 rankings. They will head to GBS for the conference tourney this weekend.
