Girls soccer highlights the week with a regional title.

GIRLS SOCCER - Montana Paley came back from injury to help lead the Spartans to a regional title. Paley scored the lone goal in a 1-0 semifinal win over Mundelein. She followed that up with a two-goal effort against Stevenson in a 5-3 win in the final. Samantha Lallas also scored twice, both in the first half, and Rachel Hirshman added the Spartans' fifth goal. They led 3-0 at halftime and 5-1 late in the match before Stevenson scored a pair of late goals. The third-seeded Spartans (19-4-2) will take on No. 2 seed Lake Forest on Tuesday at Glenbrook South in the sectional semifinal.

BOYS TENNIS - Brian Levitas was the lone Spartan to qualify for the state tournament. The senior took third in the singles draw at the Schaumburg Sectional. He will be competing at state for the third straight year. GBN took third in the team standings.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL - GBN won the Central Suburban League North title for the ninth straight year with conference wins over Maine East and Deerfield. On Monday, the Spartans (27-8, 9-1) swept Mundelein 25-16, 25-18. GBN, No. 2 in the Niles North Sectional, travels to Niles West for regional action on Tuesday and Wednesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE - Lake Forest knocked the Spartans out of the Highland Park Sectional with a 17-11 win in the semifinal on Thursday. The No. 2 seed Scouts jumped out to an 8-3 lead and didn't look back. The No. 3 seed Spartans (9-13) got three goals and an assist from senior Lisa Diamond.

BOYS LACROSSE - GBN closed out the regular season with a on Thursday on the Pirates' senior night. After falling behind early the Spartans scored four unanswered goals and held on against the Pirates, ranked No. 10 by LaxPower.com. Sophomore Ryan Maksimovic led the way with four goals and an assist. Goalie Matt Greenfield had 14 saves. The Spartans (14-3) received the No. 6 seed for the 28-team A-Class state tournament and will host No. 27 Conant in the first round on Wednesday.

BASEBALL - After getting shut out by Highland Park in a 1-0 loss on Monday, the Spartans rebounded with four straight wins. Jason Pomeroy gave up just one run in five innings in Monday's loss. The offense bounced back on Tuesday at Mount Carmel. hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to tie the game at 10 and the Spartans added another in the inning to win 11-10 over the ranked Caravan. Sean Thomas hit a grand slam and pitched for the win in Wednesday's 8-0 win over Highland Park. The Spartans topped Glenbrook South for the CSL crossover title in a 4-3 win, avenging an earlier season loss, and finished the regular season with a 7-1 win over Libertyville. GBN (28-3) can now look ahead to the Evanston Regional. The Spartans are the No. 2 seed in the Glenbrook South Sectional and begin the playoffs Wednesday against the winner of Schurz and St. Patrick.

SOFTBALL - and the softball team run-ruled Maine East on Monday 17-2, but took a pair of 10-run loss to Rolling Meadows Tuesday and New Trier later in the week. GBN hosts the regional tournament this week as the No. 6 seed in the New Trier Sectional. The Spartans play No. 12 Northside Prep on Wednesday with the possibility of meeting No. 3 Maine West in the final on Saturday.

BOYS TRACK - The Spartans competed at the 23-team Niles West Sectional on Thursday, but were unable to qualify anyone to the state meet this weekend in Charleston.
