Library Celebrates Women’s History Month With a Local Look

Women's History is celebrated at Northbrook Public Library for the month of March. View photos of many women civic leaders in our community.

The is honoring notable women who are leaders in the Northbrook community. 

Come to the Library during the month of March to see posters of local Civic leaders including Sandra Frum, (Northbrook Village President), Tensley Garris (Northbrook Chamber of Commerce President), Judy Hughes (Northbrook Historical Society President), Sue Conat (Northbrook Public Library Trustee), Vera Mayer (Northbrook Rotary Club President and Northbrook Public Library Trustee), Carla Slawson (Northbrook Youth Commission Chair), Julia Miller (Northbrook Arts Commission Chair), Hillarie Siena, (Assistant Superintendent for Business Affairs, Glenbrook High School District 225). Each woman is featured with her favorite book in a Read poster that will be on display on the 2nd floor of the Library. Another way to celebrate Women’s History is to step back in time and take an intimate look at the Life and Times of Eleanor Roosevelt – Tuesday, March 13, 7 p.m in the Auditorium. Roberta Randall, solo historical dramatist follows Mrs. Roosevelt’s life from her shy and lonely childhood to becoming First Lady, UN delegate, Chairman of the Commission on Human Rights, newspaper columnist, wife, mother, and world traveler. This program is co-sponsored by the Friends and the Northbrook Historical Society.

While you are in the library don’t miss the book display on the 2nd floor in Youth Services that showcases biographies of famous women and other prominent female authors. You won’t want to miss the display on the 3rd floor of female directors in film and another display on girl groups in music.
