Glenbrook Students Get Into Sticky Situation with Project

Teacher Rachel Kahn’s sculpture class grew by double on the last day of summer school at the Glenbrooks – if you count the bodies made of tape. In their final project, students created life-sized replicas of themselves using nothing but clear packing tape and a pair of scissors.
“It’s all about trusting a classmate,” said Kahn. “They have to wrap each other in tape and then cut them out of it with scissors. That’s why we wait until the end of the semester so that students have had a chance to get to know each other.”
The class was comprised of students from both Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South, and included a number of freshmen who will enter the district this fall.

The project was about conveying an emotion in a pose and then capturing that in a permanent sculpture. On the final day, students then reviewed each other’s work and set up an interactive installation in the student cafeteria. Some of the sculptures were placed in small groups, creating scenes and stories.
Approximately 20 students participated in the class.
