North Shore Teens Rock the Green

Six teen bands from across the North Shore will rock out at Northbrook's Village Green and compete for prizes in a battle of the bands on Friday, June 7 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Eleven bands auditioned for the event in mid-May before a panel of judges, who evaluated the groups on three categories: originality, musicianship and audience appeal.

The following bands were chosen to perform, with their style of music and hometowns indicated:

• Zaramela (Jazz/Funk) – Glenview 
• The Ska-lers (Ska) – Northbrook 
• An Awkward Moment (Rock)- Hawthorn Woods/St. Charles/Lake Zurich
• The Blondes (Rock) – Northbrook
• Sam Poll (Alternative/Rock) – Highland Park
• Lost and Found (Pop) – Northbrook

“The judges were impressed by the skill level of the performers, their professionalism and preparedness for auditions,” Erin McDonald, Assistant Manager of Performing Arts with the Northbrook Park District, said in a press release. “People who come to the event can expect to hear some great music – for free!”

The Grand Prize winner will receive $300 and the chance to perform at Park Fest on June 18 and Northbrook Autumnfest in October. Other cash prizes include: $150 for Second Place, $100 for Best Original Song and $100 for Audience Favorite. 

Park district staff videotaped the auditions and posted the videos on the District’s Facebook page. The band that receives the most “Likes” before June 3 at 5pm will receive a $100 cash prize at the finals.
