Northbrook Village officials, residents and community leaders cut the ribbon on an independent senior living community bringing a much-needed housing option for active seniors in the Northbrook area. The Lodge of Northbrook, developed by Essex Communities, offers people, 55 years of age and older, maintenance-free residences conveniently located near retail and recreational options along Founders Drive.
“The Lodge is a great example of what can come from thoughtful planning, collaboration with community partners and a commitment to excellence,” said Village President Sandy Frum. “The Village of Northbrook, working together with Techny Land Corporation and Essex, is gratified that area seniors now have a high quality housing option that complements the local community.”
The event - held October 8 - marked the completion of phase one and the launch of phase two of the project. Upon full completion, The Lodge will have a maximum of up to 100 units, 15 percent of which will be affordable housing units. The development will span 193,000 square feet. The first phase included 58 units.
“Northbrook is a wonderful community and we are thrilled residents are proud to call The Lodge their home,” said Kent Braasch, President of Essex Communities. “We share the high standards and commitment to quality that the Village has maintained.”
The Lodge of Northbrook is conveniently located on Founders Drive near Kamp Drive, just west of Waukegan Road. It is located on land owned by The Society of The Divine Word, an international Catholic missionary order that settled the land in 1899.
"It’s been very fulfilling to work closely with Village leaders and Essex on a project that serves the greater good of the community in a compatible and sensible way," said Brother Mathew Zemel, SVD, President of Techny Land Corporation. “We share in the Village’s vision that it’s more important to do it right, than to do it quickly. That’s what being a good steward of our land is all about.”
