PHOTOS: A Tour of Northbrook's Historical Society

On the south end of The Village Green, Northbrook's Historical Society offers guests a glimpse of life in ye olde Shermerville.

The Northfield Inn was built around 1894 at the corner of Shermer and Waukegan roads in the Village of Shermerville, Illinois. A well-known stopover on the route between Milwaukee and Chicago, it was best known for delicious chicken dinners and lemon cream pies.

The Inn was moved to its present location at 1776 Walters Ave. in 1975 and is now the home of the . The historical society's president, Judy Hughes, keeps village history alive with the help of local volunteers. 

The Inn Shop is open every Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
