The trademarked pattern of the Louis Vuitton monogram, quatrefoils and flowers were based on the Victorian use of Japanese designs, and was patented by Vuitton's son, to stop counterfeiting of the company's successful trunks and travel goods. Today, Louis Vuitton still combats counterfeiting, but has also created new levels of product personalization, including hot-stamped or hand-painted monograms, made-to-order goods, and custom-created goods.
