Besides the awesome teachers, aides, and director, this school has something to offer everyone. One of the greatest things about Northbrook Community is the opportunity for parents to be involved (if they want to) and get to know other parents. This is a FANTASTIC feature for someone who is new to the neighborhood but it also made a significant impact in my life and my circle of friends. I have lived in Northbrook for most of my life.

The teachers, other parents and Director were so warm and welcoming to our family - we quickly felt like we belonged when my 3 and 4 year old starting attending in the fall of 2010. They both love(d) being at school and the teachers really got to know our kids. They were always engaged in fun project, active play and got lots of outdoor time too! My kindergartener still plays with his NCNS buddies and talks about how he missing just playing at school!
Also, a plug for the afternoon classes. I was on the fence about enrolling in afternoon classes vs. possible naps. Instead, it turned out to be one of the best decisions ever. They were in a structured environment during the times when boredom with Mom in the afternoon would otherwise set in. In addition, it is a little less crazy busy at drop off/pick up, the class sizes are a little smaller, and if you have younger napping kids at home, it gives you some time to yourself!
My son has been attending the Northbrook Community Nursery School for the last 2 years and the whole family is pleased with the experience. He is enthusiastic about learning and is so excited to start Kindergarten next year. I believe this is because of NCNS. Last year, my son had some minor speech problems. His teachers mentioned it to my husband and I at the Parent/Teacher conference and pointed us in the right direction to get some help from the school district. Their early detection and a few months of speech therapy have put our son at the same learning level as his peers and he is now fully prepared to handle elementary school. We have also made wonderful friends - my son and us alike! We were new to the area when my son first started at NCNS, and thanks to the Family Fun Fest in the fall and other school events, we met many other parents in the area that have become great friends. I plan on sending my two other children here as soon as we can enroll in Parent/Tot!
My son went to NCNS for two years of preschool before he started Kindergarten in NB district 28 this year. He is doing great in Kindergarten and we owe alot of that to NCNS. They instilled a love of school and learning that, I believe, will follow him long into life. I can't say enough about the teachers and the Director. My younger son will start there next year.
When we made the big move from city to suburbs for the kids a few years ago, I did a lot of research on the preschools in this area. Even though I live in Glenview, I chose Northbrook Community because of the excellent reputation. I have not been disappointed. My three-year-old son loves his school, his teachers, and his friends. This is a school with a true sense of community, amongst the teachers, students, and parents. We have many options in the Northshore for preschools, but none compare to the experience you and your children will have at Northbrook Community.
I went to NCNS as a child and now have both of my kids in the school as well. The teachers, director and families that make this place so special are just amazing. I know my kids and I have made lifelong friends of everyone involved in the school. The way they let each class evolve their own teaching plan is just amazing. The teachers pay very close and respectful attention to each child and nurture them as individuals and as a group to explore the world around them and each other socially. I highly recommend this preschool from an educational and social perspective.
Northbrook Community Nursery School (NCNS) is a preschool that has been in the community for over 50 years. Over the last two years I have seen the teachers and this director in action I can see why the school has been a staple in Northbrook. They have created a nurturing environment with the play based curriculum that so exceptional that my 3 year old wants to go every day - even weekends. And the extra bonus is that not only has my daughter met great friends, but so have my husband and I.

I could not have been happier with the experiences my 2 children have had at Northbrook Community Nursery School. The director and teachers are warm, creative and so enthusiastic! The creative, play-based curriculum provides for a wonderful introduction to school for preschoolers. It also gives the teachers the freedom to tailor the classroom activities to whatever the children show the most interest in. No two classes are alike! Upon starting Kindergarten, my oldest child's teacher remarked on how well prepared for school NCNS students are.
NCNS goes out of its way to provide fun, after-hours family programs that all allow both new and returning families to get to know each other. My children and I will always treasure the friendships that started here. The school also volunteers at many Northbrook events, such as the Northbrook Farmer's Market, Fourth of July Parade, and Northbrook Days.
I highly recommend this school!
