Bass organized Northbrook's Black History Month programming, Flamingo Friday and the Interfaith Walk.
Northbrook's President, Trustees and audience members at Tuesday's Village Board meeting gave Sheila Bass a standing ovation for her 13 years of service on the Community Relations Commission. "We need more people like you," Board President Sandy Frum said at the Trustee meeting. The Village Board passed Recognition Resolution 1820 unanimously, cementing Bass's contributions to Northbrook for public record. "During her 13 year tenure as a member of the Northbrook Community Relations Commission, Sheila Bass contributed her leadership skills and passion in various ways for the benefit of the Commission," the resolution reads. Public Works officials likely to address the aging line along Waukegan Road.
Recent breaks in a 90-year-old water main, which runs along Waukegan Road, will likely come up during Tuesday night's scheduled Board of Trustees meeting. Shortly after the curb lane of Waukegan Road reopens to traffic, the Board of Trustees will likely consider possible solutions for handling the eight inch cast iron pipe that has ruptured three times since April. The Trustees will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Northbrook Village Hall Board Room. After more than six months of debate, village of Northbrook issues guidelines permitting but regulating front-yard gardens.
Despite the fact that her yard is buried under mounds of snow, Dora Lyakhovetsky has spring on her mind. “I’m optimistic,” she said. “Spring is coming.” Lyakhovetsky had reason to be optimistic earlier this week, when Northbrook’s board of trustees announced guidelines permitting front-yard gardens like hers. The plot Lyakhovetsky maintains in front of her house on Shannon Road became a point of controversy last summer, when neighbors complained about its appearance. A code enforcement officer sent a letter in July, demanding that the garden be removed by Nov. 1, saying it did not conform to code.
