North Shore Congressman, who has been reaching out to students since January, calls local academic achievement a reason so many of Illinois’s top schools are in the 10th District.
Since taking office in January, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) has visited six schools in the 10th Congressional District and met with students in other places including his offices in Washington and Lincolnshire. When asked by students at Learn Charter School at Great Lakes May 3 about educational opportunities, Schneider was quick to point out students from the District attend nearly half of the state’s top 20 high schools. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) wrote in a letter to supporters today he will run for the United States House of Representatives in the 10th Congressional District in 2014, a seat he lost to Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) in November. “With deep reflection, and strong support from you … I’ve made the decision to step forward and run in 2014 to represent the 10th District of Illinois,” Dold wrote in the letter. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) led a mission of 25 people to Israel last week for the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago (JUF), the group expected to get a special look at the country others do not often see. What none of them expected was to observe was a battle in the Syrian civil war but that is exactly what happened when the group visited an Israeli observation point atop Mt. Hermon on the Golan Heights only 25 miles from Damascus. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) and Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Springfield) made their first joint public appearance in Illinois since Kirk returned to full time duty in the Senate in January at a Great Lakes charter school they helped create which is now being hurt by the Sequester. Reports indicate former Congressman is raising money for a 2014 run.
Though former Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) has not indicated he will seek a 2014 rematch against Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield), evidence is mounting he may try to regain his 10th Congressional District seat. Dold, who reported raising no money in the quarter ending March 31, according to the Federal Election Commission, is starting to solicit funds, according to an email from the Schneider campaign and a flyer which Patch recently obtained. Acts of Congress are passed for a variety of reasons and for three award winning North Shore high school artists it means exposure for their creativity. Nicole Otake of Glenbrook North High School, Cullen Casey from Lake Forest High School and Vernon Hills High School’s Kayla Guo were this year’s Congressional Art Competition winners from the 10th District. Congressman gets glimpse of damage and then helps with sandbags.
Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) may have been in Washington when heavy rain brought severe floods to parts of the 10th Congressional District, but he became immersed in it before he could get home. Schneider planned to return to his Deerfield residence Thursday night but weather delays kept him away until late Friday morning. After returning, he went to see the flood damage along the Des Plaines River in Des Plaines, Mount Prospect and Wheeling. Earlier: When Will Area Rivers Crest? Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) raised $390,206 for his campaign committee for the quarter ending March 31 while Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) took in $173,617, according to reports filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Former Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth), who lost to Schneider in November and is reported by some Washington sources as considering a rematch, did not raise any money, according to the FEC reports. Washington source says Dold may be looking at rematch.
Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) will report raising more than $390,000 for a 2014 reelection bid while Washington sources indicate former Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) is considering a rematch.
