Former Anetsberger Factory Demolished
A possible Northbrook community center at 180 Anets Dr. remains under study by Park District officials.
The sprawling facility that for decades housed the offices and manufacturing plant for the Anetsberger Company, at 180 Anets Dr. in Northbrook, is in the final stages of demolition and has made the prospect of a village community center one step closer. Tearing down of the 125,000 square foot building started in late July. As of Sunday Sept. 23, all that remained of it was about 70 percent of the floor, which backhoe operators spent last week tearing up, and breaking apart by dropping it on portions of the existing floor, with ground shaking thuds. A lot has changed since 2009's surveys in Northbrook. For instance, the YMCA has undergone a major renovation and is adding services for residents of all ages. It would be a shame if the Park District does not take improvements such as those at the Y into account when considering use of the Anetsberger land. Using our tax dollars to compete with existing facilities just does not make sense, …   more ›
