The Northbrook resident's funeral was held at Temple Beth-El on Wednesday.
The following obituary was provided by Chicago Jewish Funerals. Joyce Weisman, nee Dexter 75, born on July 24, 1937, died on August 27, 2012. Mrs. Weisman was a graduate of University of Michigan, a teacher and committed volunteer for many organizations for the benefit of others. She and her husband were also initial benefactors of the Cancer Wellness Center. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Stephen A. Weisman. Loving mother of Howard (Heather) Weisman, Deborah (Bruce) Sandlow, Dina Weisman and Laura Weisman. Adored grandmother of Sarah, Natalie, Haley, Jennifer, Shaina, Summer and Tanya. Dear sister of Evelyn (Earl) Kuznetsky. Fond sister-in-law of Robert (Marilyn) Weisman. Service was held Wednesday at Temple Beth-El. In lieu of flowers …

Players in the Northbrook Girls Softball Association will be sporting pink all week long as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Week
Players in the Northbrook Girls Softball Association are learning how to catch, hit, throw and slide--and just as importantly, how to give back to the community. For the first time, the league is dedicating this week (May 9-14) to raising awareness of breast cancer. "We were talking about trying to do some fun things for the girls outside of just softball," NGSA Boad Member Pete Stanicek said. "If it's something that gives them the chance to think about doing something good for their community and for people in need, then I think that's the best part of it." All players in the league will be wearing pink as part of their uniforms this week and will be playing with pink softballs. Each girls has also set a goal of raising $100 to go …

Volunteers and patients praise Northbrook's Cancer Wellness Center, which holds its seventh annual Stepping Up To Wellness run/walk May 22.
Nine years after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer, Peggy Bassrawi credits her good health as much to Northbrook's Cancer Wellness Center as she does to the doctors who treated her. “The doctors that I saw healed my physical being. This place healed my emotional, physical, spiritual being,” said Bassrawi, who has been a school nurse at Niles West for the past 22 years. Although her doctors were sympathetic, she said, they didn’t always have the time to talk with her. And she’d never met anyone with colorectal cancer until she began coming to the center, which offers free support services to patients with cancer and their families. “When a person is diagnosed with cancer, its almost like being hit in the face with a two-by-four,” she …

Joyce and Steve were amazing people! Steve and my dad were good friends many years ago! I'm very sad to wake up to this article. I'm very sorry to learn of her passing after services have already been held. My heart goes out to their family!   more ›
