Downtown Loses Power; ComEd Predicts More Outages

Businesses in the center of town lost power for several hours during the middle of the day on Tuesday.

With power out for several hours downtown Tuesday, businesses shut down--or got creative. At Do It Best hardware, an employee was serving in lieu of the automatic door opener, while a hairdresser at Ida's Salon had set up a client in the entryway of the store, where there was still a little light by which to apply hair color. "All we need is water and color and the light of the iPhone," said manager Michael Stellato. Meanwhile, several businesses nearby closed for the day early, including Chase Bank, Three Bags Knitting Studio and Rosin Eye Care. Power went out downtown around 10 a.m., when a line went down by Greenbriar School. Another line was downed at Center Ave., according to Matt Morrison, assistant to the village's public works …
