Northbrook Police Begin Holiday Driving Crackdown

The 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket' initiative launches Monday and runs through New Years Day. It's concentrating on the dangerous hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The Northbrook Police Department begins its "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket" holiday campaign today aimed at stopping drunk drivers and seat belt violators, the department announced in a press release. The initiative is specifically targeting offenders between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. because those are considered the most deadly hours on the road.  "According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the midnight to 3 a.m. time frame is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways, and 9 p.m. is the time of day when data shows that alcohol involvement and low seat belt use begins to play a much more significant role in motor vehicle fatalities," the …

24 Arrests Made During DUI Crackdown

Northbrook police used a $10,000 state grant to catch impaired motorists from Aug. 19-Sept. 5.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 25, police arrested a 22-year-old Buffalo Grove man on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) after his vehicle slammed into another car that was making a left turn onto Sanders Road. The collision killed the 58-year-old female driver of the second car. That arrest was just one of 24 arrests Northbrook police made during an 18-day-crackdown on impaired drivers that ran through Sept. 5, according to Traffic Officer Christopher Lacina. Last year, the department made seven DUI arrests during a nationwide campaign to reduce drunken driving.  The local arrest numbers were up so far this year due to a nearly $10,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, which allowed Northbrook to devote extra …
