What Grocery Stores are Open Christmas Eve and Day in Northbrook-Glenview

Most local grocery stories will be open on Christmas Eve, but not on Christmas Day

As you rush out madly for last minute supplies for Christmas dinner, area grocery stores will be there with their doors open for you — at least early in the day on Christmas Eve. They’ll be closing their doors early that day, so you’ll probably want to head out early for your supplies. And don’t even think about waiting to buy your Christmas coffee cake until Christmas Day, because you’ll be hard-pressed to find a nearby grocery store open. Here is a round-up of grocery store hours in Glenview and Northbrook on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Dominick’s 1340 Patriot Blvd, Glenview , (847) 657-3124 4125 Dundee Road, Northbrook , (847) 498-3304 The stores will be open from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day. Jewel …

Best Of Patch: Hamantaschen

What's your favorite spot to pick up the Purim pastry?

Our inaugural Best of Patch contest kicks off this week...and we've got food on the brain. Specifically, we're thinking of hamantaschen, the triangular cookie traditionally eaten during the Jewish holiday Purim. We want to know who makes the best hamantaschen in town -- and we're asking you to share your opinion. Here are some of our favorite places, but if we're leaving one off of the list, please let us know in the comments and we'll add it: Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. Friday. Ties will be broken by whichever business has the most positive comments in the section below. We will announce the winner at noon Friday. So please tell us what your favorite place is to pick up these sweet treats. And don't forget to tell us why…

Patch Picks for The Passover Table

Family meals do not have to be stressful! Make a simple and delicious meal with some of these trusted favorites.

Center Stage Certainly the star of many Passover tables, this brisket is as delicious as it is simple to make. I wish I could remember which food magazine instructed me to load my slow cooker in this order: 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced; 2 garlic cloves, smashed; 4 lb. brisket, trimmed; salt and pepper to taste; 2 C. low sodium chicken broth. Cover, and cook on high for 6 hours. Mine came out so tender, it broke in two while I was trying to pull it out of the pot. Find your brisket at one of our local butcher shops: Northbrook’s Elegance in Meat or Glenview’s Reagan Meats. Garnish If you want to garnish your delicious brisket, look to the same source as our groceries. From Jewel, Barry's Matzah Salad uses red pepper, cucumber and chives to…

Blotter: Attempted Burglary on Yorkshire Lane; Credit Card Fraud

The police blotter for March 6-12.

The items below come from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. ATTEMPTED BURGLARY ON YORKSHIRE LANE A woman was lying upstairs in her bed at her home on Yorkshire Lane Saturday, March 12, when she heard her dog starting to whine, according to police. She was about to go downstairs to see what was up when she heard a window break and her dog begin to bark “uncontrollably.”  Police responded to her residence, but could not find any objects inside the house that could have broken the window, and did not see any people in the area. Officers did note three window …
