Northbrook Residents, Businesses to Hold Sandy Hook Fundraiser

Two local students teamed up with La De Da, Josh's Hot Dogs and other local businesses to raise money for Newtown, CT's Sandy Hook School Support Fund Friday.

Two Northbrook residents are teaming up with local businesses to do what so many of us are trying to accomplish this week: figure out a way to help the victims of the Newtown school shooting.  Lindsey Heller and Lauren Dzakovich are both from Northbrook and are students at Indiana University, and came up with the fundraiser idea. "Saddened by the news of the shooting, and as pre-service teachers at Indiana University, Lauren and I have decided to put this fundraiser together," Lindsey explained in an email. "We first decided to sell ribbons for small donations and create sympathy cards to send to the families and friends of the victims that lost their loved ones." Top Chef Spearheads Dinner for the Cause

Chris Jones, a contestant on Bravo TV's Top Chef, will serve a one-of-a-kind meal in Grayslake to raise money for the Northern illinois Food Bank.

Diners from throughout Chicagoland can experience a unique menu during Dinner for the Cause, a fundraiser to help fight hunger. Chef Chris Jones, a Grayslake local known from being a contestant on Bravo TV's Top Chef, Moto Restaurant of Chicago and Discovery Channel's Future Foods, teamed up with Mike Pruitt, owner of The Vine Martini and Wine Bar in Grayslake. Tickets for the special seven-course meal paired with wine are $100 each. Only 100 tickets are available. The event will be held on Oct. 20. Proceeds from Dinner for the Cause will support the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The event is sponsored by The Vine, Moto, the GLMV Jaycees, U.S. Foods and Heritage Wines. PHOTOS: Balloons Light The Night To Fight Cancer

Thousands gather at Glenview's Gallery Park to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Cancer survivors, current patients and their supporters converged on Gallery Park in Glenview Sunday evening for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's annual Light the Night Walk. The walk is a national event, with similar outings happening across the country and tens of millions of dollars raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Last year, more than $45 million was raised by Light the Night Walks across the country. As walkers made their way around Gallery Park they carried red, white, and gold balloons: white for survivors, gold for those who have died, and red for supporters.
