CNN Money reports the average price for a gallon of gasoline in America is $3.73. Northbrook gasoline prices are even higher.
Most motorists have noticed that the price of gasoline has done nothing but rise over the past month. CNN Money reports the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in America has increased more than 13 percent over the past 32 days to $3.73. On Tuesday morning, the cheapest gas prices in Northbrook were $3.80 at Town Car Wash on 1103 Waukegan Rd. CNN Money is crediting the price increase to a combination of factors including rising crude oil prices, production cuts and refinery closings.

Northbrook may be safe from the wind and rain, but AAA officials said Tropical Storm Isaac -- soon expected to become Hurricane Isaac -- may cause average gas prices to rise 10 cents a gallon nationally.
Tom Kloza, chief analyst for the Oil Price Information Service, which tracks gas prices for AAA, estimated that the national gas price average could increase by 10 cents because Gulf of Mexico oil rigs are shutting down in preparation for Tropical Storm Isaac, CNN reports. Though Kloza also thinks the prices should go down fairly quickly after the storm. The national news arrived on the heals of a recent Chicago Tribune report that Chicago has the highest gas prices in the country. AAA Chicago is saying that refinery problems in Illinois and Indiana are behind gas price increases that took the cost to more than $4 a gallon in the Chicago area, according to the State Journal Register. According to IllinoisGasPrices.com, the cheapest gas you’ll find in Northbrook area is $3.99 at the Mobil at 3155 Dundee Rd. While gas prices are rising nationwide, gas prices in Illinois are rising at a rapid rate, nearly 40 cents more per gallon in the past week, according to GasBuddy.com. All of our region's gas is overpriced! You can fill up in Kenosha Wisconsin for about $3.35 and Racine for about $3.31 per gallon. Not to mention southern Illinois with even cheaper gas. All this explanation about expensive special formulas doesn't wash with me. Taxes are way too high, but don't account for these differences. We are geting ripped off. more ›
