Administrators hope conservative approach offers financial stability for future students at Glenbrook high schools.
The following release was provided by District 225. The Glenbrook High School District 225 Board of Education approved the 2012-13 budget, projecting $101,184,315 in revenues and $101,181,009 in expenditures in the Operating Fund. Based on the approved budget, the District forecasts an Operating Fund balance of $69.7 million as of June 30, 2013. “Maintaining strong fund balances is a key financial strategy for our district as we face uncertainties such as increasing student enrollment and potential decreases in state and federal funding,” said Board President Skip Shein. “By doing so, we greatly enhance our ability to continue providing the level of service our community expects from the Glenbrooks.” The majority (95%) of the District …

Students Tackle Home Improvements for War Veteran More than 40 student and teacher volunteers from Glenbrook South’s Interact Club recently came together to help a 84-year-old Korean War veteran with some needed home improvements. Over a two-day period, the group repainted, landscaped and installed new light fixtures around the Arlington Heights home. GBS Interact Club partnered with Habitat for Humanity for the renovations. The volunteer effort was also part of the club’s annual Paint-a-thon event. Interact is open to juniors and seniors who are interested in public service projects and helping those in need. GBS and GBN recently participated in an energy study to reduce use and save money. The Illinois Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity rated the district as 'highly efficient'; the schools have reduced energy consumption by $1M since 2008-2009.
Glenbrook North and South are doing their part to go Green but still have room for improvement, according to a recent energy study through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The retro-commissioning energy audit identified opportunities to reduce energy use and save money throughout the district, which was recognized as 'highly efficient' by the agency. Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC) was designated to complete the review at GBN while EnerNOC, Inc., an energy consulting firm, conducted the analysis at GBS. Illinois State Senate candidates (9th district) Daniel Biss and Glenn Farkas will participate in a District Debate on Wednesday Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. The debate will take place in the Glenbrook South High School auditorium and open to the public. The debate was organized organized by students in Mr. Kane’s social studies classes. A former math professor at the University of Chicago, Democrat Daniel Biss is the current representative for the 17th House District in the Illinois General Assembly, first elected in 2010. Presently, he serves on seven House Committees and has been working to pass legislation regarding pensions, the environment and nuclear energy. The following story was provided by District 225. Across District 225, on August 23, students filled the halls of Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South high schools for the first time after a particularly challenging summer. The months usually consumed with vacations and relaxation had been broken up by a handful of inexplicable events that touched the lives of many in the Northbrook and Glenview communities — the death of a teacher, a student who died in a car accident, the suicides of a GBN alum and a GBN football player. The Glenbrook South Titans faced off against dozens of other top boy's track and field teams this weekend for the coveted state title. Related: Catch up with the Titans' entire season. Runners beat the heat wave to compete Thursday through Saturday at the O'Brien Stadium in Charleston, Illinois. Approximately 176 teams, including GBS, competed in IHSA's 3A Series. The nominee eked out a victory and was named Athlete of the Week.
With 5 votes in the comments section, Glenbrook South's Sully Stadler was named the Athlete of the Week. Stadler got the win for Glenbrook South in a 3-0 victory over Maine South. Stadler had eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings pitched and the victory over their CSL South rivals snapped Maine South’s 18-game winning streak. HONORABLE MENTION Reggie Murphy, freshman, track and field, Evanston - Murphy was a key contributor in helping the Wildkits win the CSL South conference track meet for the second consecutive season. Murphy was part of the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams while also securing an individual title in the 100.
