I-294 Crash Kills 1, Injures 4

Cesar Salas, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene after a Sunday morning crash near Northbrook and Deerfield.

A Vernon Township man was pronounced dead at the scene after a three-vehicle crash on Sunday morning on I-294, between Northbrook and Deerfield, near Lake Cook Rd., The Daily Herald reports. Around 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Cesar Salas, 39, of Prairie View, was traveling south on I-294 when he rear-ended a tow truck, according to The Daily Herald.  The tow truck driver reportedly exited his vehicle to speak to Salas when a taxi carrying two passengers struck Salas's car and spun out. The taxi then struck the tow truck driver who was standing in the road. He did not sustain life-threatening injuries, reported the Chicago Tribune, which has a photo of the taxi. Patch Picks: Summer Construction Hot Spots

Summer is coming, and so are the earth movers, bulldozers, and dump trucks.

With spring come the bulldozers, earthmovers and dump trucks that signal the start of contruction season. Grab your GPS, your bike or a train schedule and find an alternate route while these five much needed (and much dreaded) projects are completed. Lake Cook Road Congestion will continue on the north side of town, as the Cook County Highway Department reconstructs this thoroughfare between Wilmot and Pfingsten roads. The road will eventually widen to six lanes in some areas, water mains will be relocated, and traffic signals will be modernized.
