Firefighters Get New Contract

Firemen will get raises and contribute more for medical insurance as part of four-year agreement.

Firefighters will get a 2.25 percent salary boost this year and 2.5 percent each of the next three years as part of a new four-year contract with Northbrook. Firemen also will be required to pay more toward the cost of their medical insurance and coverage as part of the agreement approved unanimously by trustees Tuesday. This year’s pay hike will be retroactive to May 1, 2011 when the previous agreement expired. The new contract expires April 30, 2015. As part of the new agreement, premium costs went up to 11 percent on May 1 and will go up another 1 percent - to 12 percent, next May 1.
