North Shore Foodie Finds

South of the Border Flavors at El Mexican Restaurant

Patch samples the empanadas, burrito and caprese salad at Glenview's newest mexican restaurant.

Shortly after Patch covered El Mexican's late-November opening, commenters wrote about their experiences trying the small restaurant's food.  J.P. wrote she would come back because of El's steak tacos. Kathryn Eisen called it the best food she has ever had. You heard it here first, folks.  I had a few meals at the storefront restaurant at 2528 Waukegan Rd. in Glenview over several visits after the opening. I tried the vegetarian burrito, caprese salad, beef and pork empanadas. I have also added the restaurant to Foursquare, which basically means I plan to go back often.  The first dish I tried at El was a vegi burrito, my typical go-to meal when eating at a taqueria. Glenbrook North Grad Opens Glenview Restaurant

Jen Eisen opened El Mexican Restaurant at 2528 Waukegan Rd. on Friday with her business partner, Eloin Amador.

Growing up in Northbrook, Jen Eisen was three-years-old when she begged her mother for an easy bake oven. She was helping her family prepare meals by the time she was seven. At eight, she bought her first subscription to the Martha Stewart Magazine, which she still subscribes to today. Meanwhile, in Palmer Chico, Mexico, Eloin Amador was mastering the art of Mexican cooking in his family home, using a tradition Mexican plancha to cook tortillas. By the time he was eight, Eloin was cooking enough food to feed his neighborhood.  Years later, the two met as coworkers at Morton Grove's Catering by Michaels, and a collaboration began that culminated in the opening of El Mexican Restaurant in Glenview last Friday.   The restaurant offers basic, …
