Friday night's swim-skating extravaganza will benefit Fourth of July festivities.
What's a cosmic skate? Northbrook residents can find out by attending Friday night's inaugural Fun4All. The skating and swimming event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Northbrook Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Rd. Open swim and a cosmic skate will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Pizza will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The cost will be $10 if you register before Friday. Registration will be $15 at the door. Park District hosts forum to gather community input on potential construction of new community center.
Northbrook residents gathered at a park district forum to discuss the possibility of a new community center had one major question. What’s the price tag? Following its acquisition of a six-acre property near Techny Prairie Park and Fields for $2.1 million, the park district surveyed residents on their interest in building a community center on the site. Of the 678 households that responded to the survey, some 42 percent said that they were “very supportive” of building a community center there, while 21 percent said they were somewhat supportive. One question remains after the park district acquired a six-acre property near Techny Prairie Park and Fields in August 2011. What will replace the former Anetsberger factory? Based on the results of a park district survey released Thursday, it appears that a significant number of Northbrook residents would support the construction of a new community center at the site. “This has been and always will be a community-driven process,” said executive director Rick Hanetho. This winter, the park district hired consultant Leisure Vision, which sent out questionnaires to a random sampling of 3,000 Northbrook households between January and February. Kids were already playing on the new slides and swings at Indian Ridge Park moments after the construction fence came down.
The verdict is in. The newest playground in town is "awesome." At least that's what the first kids to check it out had to say shortly after the playground opened on Friday afternoon. Replacing an older, small playground in Indian Ridge Park, the new one includes a web crawler, several different types of slides and six swings, according to Northbrook Park District spokesperson Gail Baritz. When the Park District was planning the playground behind the Leisure Center, community members were able to review the plans and helped decide what the playground should have, Baritz said.
