Growing Up In Northbrook—Again

The Midlife Mom Crisis

Our roles as parents are ever changing — whether we're ready or not!

A news flash recently came in the form of a text from my middle son (the family therapist), answering my question about his ability to get home and feed his younger sister dinner because I wanted to go out with friends.  “She’s going to high school, Mom," he wrote. "She can FEED HERSELF.”  Apparently I was the one being served…a heaping plateful of reality, with a side of brutal truth — fat free, of course. Well, my son is right, and he’s not the first one to let me know loud and clear that I am in a state of transition more overwhelming than my growing girth with each pregnancy and more intense than watching my oldest go off to college. My baby is going to high school…She is actually old enough to go off to that school that I am so fond …
