The Northbrook Fire Department provided a hospital transport after two cars crashed near Waukegan Road on Monday night.
State police reported two-vehicle crashed on the Edens Expressway near Waukegan Road Monday night. The Northbrook Fire Department provided a hospital transport. Police temporarily shut down all eastbound traffic and all but one wesbound lane. A Ford Explorer and an Audi passenger vehicle were involved in the crash. Early reports of a semi truck in the crash were rejected by police. Patch will update the story as it develops.

Multiple Northbrook departments trained in communication and coordination during various, possible incidents.
The following reports were part of Northbrook's weekly village memo. On April 9, Northbrook departments such as police, fire, public works and general government senior staff, along with a representative from METRA, conducted a tabletop drill to review/rehearse communication and coordination of a mock incident involving village infrastructure, water supply, transportation and a significant railroad hazard. The objective of the training was to identify key roles and to improve efficiency and effectiveness with unified command and other concepts of interoperability and coordinated service. Household fire extinguishers should be replaced every five to seven years.
When was the last time you replaced the fire extinguisher at home? Northbook’s Director of Fire Prevention Kevin Frangiamore is reminding residents that household fire extinguishers should be checked periodically for its pressure and hose, and replaced every five to seven years, Chicago Tribune reported. If you don’t have a fire extinguisher at home, a non-rechargeable extinguisher can be purchased for about $20, and residents can learn about how to use a fire extinguisher by visiting Northbrook Fire Department’s open house in the fall, Chicago Tribune reported.

An offender quickly confessed and returned items to a Northbrook family.
The following items were part of a weekly Village of Northbrook staff memo. Police Activity Police are investigating a burglary in the 2000 block of Butternut Lane. Homeowners returned home from a vacation to find one of the offenders and the offender’s father in the driveway. The offender confessed to being a part of the burglary and returned some of the stolen items, offering apologies. Other offenders are being sought for questioning. The case is under investigation. Fire Department Training During the week of April 1, a joint training exercise was conducted with the Northbrook and Wheeling Fire Departments. Someone on Techny Road contained burning paper towels in their kitchen using a fire extinguisher.
The following report appeared in the Village of Northbrook's weekly memo. On Wednesday evening, March 27, a Northbrook resident on the 2000 block of Techny Road noticed a fire in the kitchen and extinguished it before extensive damage occurred. When firefighters arrived, they could smell something burning from the street. The house had a fair amount of smoke or haze on the first floor with the doors and windows already opened. The homeowner stated that her young child placed a roll of paper towels on the counter top next to a candle and the entire roll caught on fire. Last Thursday, Northbrook firefighters responded to a call of a car driving into the exterior of a CVS pharmacy, although the offender had left the scene.

A Highwood man was killed last Thursday in a multiple-vehicle car crash at the corner of Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road in Northbrook.
A Highwood man was killed last Thursday in a multiple-vehicle car crash at the corner of Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road in Northbrook, the Chicago Tribune reports. The Northbrook Fire Department responded to a four vehicle crash with one car on its side, according to deputy fire chief Tim Smeltzer. Hector Esquivel, a 23-year-old from the 200 block of Greenbay Road in Highwood, was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash at 3:40 p.m., according to the Tribune. Northbrook fire fighters helped extract a woman who was stuck in a car that flipped over near the Jewel at Deerbrook Mall.
The following report was part of a Village of Northbrook memo. On Tuesday, Feb. 26, at about 10:30 a.m., the Northbrook Fire Department responded to a rollover accident in the parking lot of the Jewel near Lake Cook and Waukegan roads. The driver of a car lost control, crossed a median and drove over an unoccupied car before rolling over and landing on its roof. The driver was still in the car when the fire department arrived. The driver was removed from the car uninjured and denied transportation to the hospital. Deerfield’s ambulance happened to be in the area and assisted Northbrook's first responders, and Deerfield police are currently investigating the cause of the accident. One car was flipped on its side after a Thursday afternoon crash.
The Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed at least one fatality in a Thursday afternoon car crash at Dundee Road and Skokie Blvd., the Northbrook Star reports. It seemed four vehicles were involved in the crash at 3:45 p.m., with one flipped on its side in the aftermath, according to the Northbrook Star. Northbrook police worked with the FBI and Chicago police to recover a painting stolen in 2007.
The following reports were part of a Village of Northbrook staff memo. Police Department Activity On Feb. 7, Northbrook Tactical Officers took a report on a stolen art piece. The piece was loaned from a Northbrook business to a gallery in Chicago and was stolen during a burglary of the gallery in 2007. The piece was recently offered for sale in the Chicago area and word of this reached the original owner through the art community. Tactical Officers employed an undercover identity and arranged to meet with the current "owner" to examine the piece.
