'Light and Shadow' Concert Comes to Northbrook

This year's community choir concert, 'ChiaroScuro: Light and Shadow' will premier on Friday, May 31 at the Northbrook Theatre.

The Northbrook Community Choir, a program of the Northbrook Park District, will host a grand concert on Friday, May 31. Jennifer Whiting will conduct "ChiaroScuro: Light and Shadow" at the intimate Northbrook Theatre. The highly regarded choir will be accompanied by a string quartet, piano and percussion. The 45-member choir has been rehearsing the show since January, according to the park district. Colleen Aronson, a soprano, calls the weekly rehearsals her "choral yoga."   “The choir members share a love of singing and a desire for learning and growing as musicians, and theyderive satisfaction from coming together to create music that they cannot create on their own,” Jennifer Whiting said in a press release. “There is something …

Northbrook Park District Election 2013 Results

Independent Robert Lozaro is running against the Caucus-backed Paul Zima, Michael Schyman and Penny Randel.

RESULTS (UPDATED AS THEY COME IN TUESDAY NIGHT): Robert Lozaro Robert Lozaro, a 30-year Northbrook resident, is running for a position on the Park District Board as an independent candidate. Paul Zima, Michael Schyman and Penny Randel are incumbent commissioners, backed by the Northbrook Caucus in the race. Four people are running, three will be elected. Past Coverage of the Park Board Race Results do not include early voting, vote by mail or provisional ballots. Any votes for write-in candidates will be counted within a week after the election.

Swing Away at the Northbrook Batting Cages Starting Saturday

Spring hours of operation and cage fees have been set by the Northbrook Park District.

It's a sure sign of spring. Starting Saturday, April 13 the batting cages at Techny Prairie Park and Fields will be open to the public, weather permitting. The spring hours of operation are: Monday-Friday: 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Sunday: 12 to 8:00 p.m. Helmets are required and provided at no charge. Northbrook Golf Courses Open Thursday

Sportsman’s Country Club and the Anetsberger Golf Course will open for the season on Thursday, April 4.

Time to dust off those khaki shorts. The Northbrook Park District recently announced the golf courses at Sportsman’s Country Club and the Anetsberger Golf Course will open for the season on Thursday, April 4. The Classic 18 and East 9 Courses at Sportsman’s Country Club will be open from sunrise to sunset. The Anetsberger Golf Shop in Techny Prairie Park and Fields will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. everyday. The Practice Range at Sportsman’s is open already, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, weather permitting. The following letter was submitted by Penny Randel, Michael Schyman and Paul Zima, the Northbrook Caucus backed candidates for the Park Board. Two of us were able to attend the Northbrook Park District Spring Bunny Trail on Saturday. How wonderful it was to see so many people in attendance and enjoying this community event. It was a great reminder of the benefits the Northbrook Park District provides the residents. While the Northbrook Patch has not sought any input from the Caucus endorsed candidates for Northbrook Park District Commissioner, we would like to submit the following statement on our positions. Northbrook Golf Range, Skate Park Now Open

Weather permitting, the Sportsman’s Country Club practice golf range and Techny Prairie's skate park are now open for the season.

It’s beginning to feel like spring around here! The Practice Range at Sportsman’s Country Club opened for business this week, as did the Skate Park in Techny Prairie Park and Fields. The hours of the Practice Range are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., weather permitting. The address is 3535 Dundee Road. An automated ball-dispenser accepts credit cards and prepaid cards; golfers also can obtain a pin code from the cashier.  The Skate Park welcomes skateboarders and in-line skaters from sunrise to 10:00 p.m., weather permitting. The Skate Park is free and open to everyone, but children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets and other protective equipment are required.
