On Wednesday morning, a car crash on Waukegan Road sent three people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to a Northbrook village memo.
The following items were part of a weekly Village of Northbrook memo. On Wednesday morning, just before 8:00 a.m., two vehicles collided at Waukegan Rd. and the exit ramp of the Tri-State Tollway, causing three persons to be transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. According to witnesses, one car was traveling south on Waukegan Rd. as another was attempting to turn north on Waukegan from the exit ramp when the collision occurred. Two Northbrook ambulances and one ambulance from Deerfield transported the three patients to Highland Park Hospital. Gary Moriello has been dressing up as Santa Claus and delivering books to school children in Chicago for more than 20 years. He calls it Operation Santa Claus.
Gary Moriello, 64, a retired school principal and member of the Northbrook Youth Commission has worn a Santa Claus costume every year since 1991. He says the suit gets hot, but it doesn't seem to affect his upbeat and quirky personality. It's part of Operation Santa Claus, a program Moriello developed while he was principal of Gladstone Elementary in Chicago. For the first few years, Moriello would help collect toys, which he then delivered to kids at the school. But when Gladstone students' reading performance started to wane, Operation Santa Claus switched the toys for books. "I had lots of people opposed to that," Moriello said. Seven short films made by Northbrook students to run at 7 p.m. at public library.
You're not likely to see Clive Owen or Jessica Chastain walking down a red carpet in Northbrook Monday. But you could catch a glimpse of the work of a future Steven Spielberg or Wes Anderson during the upcoming Northbrook Youth Film Festival. The event, the third, will be at 7 p.m. June 10 at the Northbrook Public Library, 1201 Cedar Lane. Admission is free. Northbrook's Youth Commission and the Arts Commission will sponsor the event. The event will honor young, local filmmakers who are at Northbrook Junior High School, Glenbrook North, New York University and Chapman University. Audience can lend its voice in which group will win Rock the Green.
If you're into all kinds of music, you're gonna really rock out June 8 at finals of Rock the Green. Eight bands will compete in the finals of the third Battle of Northbrook Youth Bands, from 6 to 10 p.m., June 8 at the Village Green Park. Entries include: Local music experts will judge the bands on sound quality, originality, musical ability and audience appeal. The grand prize winner will get $300 and the chance to perform at Park Fest on June 26 and Northbrook Autumnfest on Oct. 13.
