On Tuesday night, Northbrook's Lee Goodman stood before the village board during the regular trustee meeting and accused president Sandy Frum and the other trustees of doing nothing to protect residents from gun violence. "Three months ago this room was filled with people who wanted to talk to you about reducing the possibility of gun violence in our village and before anyone could say a word our village president wanted everyone to know this village board intended to do nothing to make us safer from gun violence," Goodman said. Marks will run against the Northbrook Caucus and current president Sandy Frum in the village's April elections.
Eugene Marks, Northbrook's former Village President, along with former Trustee Julius Kole, Lynn Ritz and Daniel Scott, will run as the Democratic party against the Northbrook Caucus' mostly-incumbent slate in the village's April's elections, the Chicago Tribune reports. "When (Kole) and I left the last time, the village had been in the best financial shape," Marks told the Tribune. "We were business friendly. Morale was up. Things were running phenomenal." During the annual State of the Village address, board president Sandy Frum talked about Northbrook's strong economic position, recent successes in village infrastructure development and Walmart's upcoming bid for the lot near Skokie Blvd. and Dundee Rd.
Village president Sandy Frum gave a brief preview of next week's regular board meeting, saying village trustees would hear a proposal from Walmart about developing a store at 1000 Skokie Blvd. "I'm not cutting them off," Frum said at Pinstripes on Monday, during the annual State of the Village presentation. Northbrook's current Village President will pursue a second term in the upcoming municipal elections.
With five Village Board terms expiring in April, at least four incumbents plan to seek re-election if slated by the Northbrook Caucus. Village President Sandy Frum, Village Clerk Deborah Ford, along with Board Trustees Todd Heller and Kathryn Ciesla have confirmed plans to seek another term at Village Hall. “I plan to see reelection so that I am able to continue my service to the residents and businesses of Northbrook,” Frum wrote in an email. Trustee Michael Scolaro, whose term is also expiring, is still on the fence about the April election. A new study shows that Richard Nahrstadt, who currently makes $236,689 including benefits, is the fourth highest paid village manager in the state and makes more money than Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Northbrook's village manager is the fourth highest paid village manager in the state of Illinois, according to a study by For the Good of Illinois, a group that advocates for small government. Village Manger Richard Nahrstadt is listed in the study as receiving $236,689 in compensation. His base salary is $191,937.50, according to Northbrook Village President Sandy Frum. The difference in numbers is due to the fact that For the Good Illinois calculates benefits and additional compensation into the numbers it used in the study. “His total compensation included a buy back of accrued vacation days, and other benefits, as allowed by his contract," Frum explained.
