PHOTOS: The Nightcrawlers Perform a Gig at the Y

People of all ages gathered on the North Suburban YMCA lawn to hear the sweet sounds of live blues rock.

My year between college and Patch was spent at countless concert halls, nightclubs and wandering city streets, honing a photography hobby that all-but launched my journalism career once upon a time. I occasionally refer to this period in my life as the "starving artist phase," even though my parents kept me well fed and my work was nowhere near high art.  I don't go to many concerts anymore, I'm rarely in the city and I never actually liked going to nightclubs — I'm a hungry journalist now and my photography hobby has been largely put aside.  So you might imagine my initial excitement to learn about the North Suburban YMCA's Gig at the Y summer concert series, which gave me the chance to flex the concert-photography skills I spent a quite …

YMCA and Northbrook Arts Commission to Host “Gig at the Y” Series

August concerts rock on in new location.

The following press release was provided by the North Suburban YMCA. With an expansive lawn, party tent with picnic tables, an accessible playground for children and plenty of free parking, the North Suburban YMCA has been named the new home for the August concert series, “Gig at the Y”, sponsored by the Northbrook Arts Commission. The popular music and food events will be held on three consecutive Tuesday nights at the Y, located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. The first Gig concert, on August 7, will feature the Top 40 band Out of Control, with food available from Little Louie’s. On August 14, the Nightcrawlers blues band will perform and Chicken Charlie’s will provide the food. Finally, the People of Swing will entertain concertgoers…
