Northbrook's Nathan Salstone Returns from Broadway

A Glenbrook North student competed at The National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City last week.

If you’ve attended any Glenbrook North theater productions over the last few years, you may already be aware of Nathan Salstone. The high school senior has acted in leading roles since his freshman year. His resume includes Roger in the musical Rent, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet and most recently the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. Shakespeare's Star-Crossed Lovers Take the Stage At GBN

Students put on traditional staging of Romeo & Juliet.

It is GBN's first staging of Shakespeare's classic play since the 1970s. "I wanted it in the original time period because I wanted the swordfights," said Theater Director Julie Ann Robinson. "I was really suprised with how cool the kids have been with things like tights." The production includes a cast of 75 students, making for a relatively large fall play.   "It's a beast of a show with all the moving parts, swordfights, and the number of kids," said Robinson. GBN's Romeo and Juliet also uses several student musicians to provide live accompaniment for the play. "People always talk about updating …

Marital Highs and Lows: New Play at Writers' Theatre is a "Knockout"

Writers' Theatre opens its 20th season with a play with plenty of heartbreak, humor and wit.

What might seem real to a playwright might not seem real to actors. Or, is it, what might seem real to actors might not to their characters? Wait one meta-moment! If it's a play you're watching, isn't nothing real? Confused yet? You may feel a little misguided and a bit apprehensive (as I did) within the first scene—but for good reason. Heartbreak on stage can have those effects. More in theater: Glencoe Troupe to Raise Curtain on 20th Season After nearly 30 years on the theater circuit, the play—which stars seasoned actor Sean Fortunato, as Henry, and Carrie Coon, as Annie, who, of …
