Before you hit the polls tomorrow, check out what they had to say. Northbrook Patch contacted each candidate with a list of questions ranging from district finances to teacher morale. Each day this week, we'll provide you with the answers from one of those candidates. Today's Q&A is with Chuck Gitles, a member of the school board from 2005 to 2009 who served on the education, policy, finance, food service and buildings and grounds committees as well as a team that negotiated union contracts with teachers. The Glenview resident has three children in the district and went to Maple School himself. He is currently employed as a first vice president of American Chartered Bank in Northbrook and has served on the Kohl Children’s Museum board of governors since 2003. Students "filled the can" at Wescott and held a bake sale at Willowbrook to raise funds for Red Cross relief efforts in Japan.

Who: Wescott and Willowbrook elementary school students Accomplishment: Asked to "Fill the Can for Japan," Wescott students and families contributed $4,300 in just four days for Red Cross relief efforts in Japan. Meanwhile, Willowbrook Kindergarten teachers Patricia Liss and Amy Schutz led students in a bake sale that raised more than $1,000. The money will also go to help the Red Cross serve victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Key to Awesomeness: "This activity not only helped the kids hone their math skills, it gave them the chance to reach out to those in need," Schutz said.
