GBN Holds Memorial Service For Longtime Staffer “Bernie”

Werner 'Bernie' Bernhard, whose daughters were charged with criminal neglect in connection with his death last July, was one of the first staff members at Glenbrook North. The school will hold a memorial service for him on May 17.

Nearly a year after a longtime Glenbrook North staff member passed away in what may have been a case of criminal neglect, the school is holding a memorial service in his honor.     On May 17, members of the school community will gather to honor the life of former Glenbrook North administrator Werner “Bernie” Bernhard. The Northbrook resident passed away at 83 last July, four months after emergency responders found him in critical condition on the floor of his daughter’s home.   He had apparently been lying on the ground, severely dehydrated and emaciated, for at least a week when police were called to the scene in March 2011. UPDATE: Sisters Charged With Criminal Neglect Of Their Elderly Father

Two Northbrook women were charged with criminal neglect after their father was found severely emaciated in one sister's home.

An 83-year-old man was found lying in his own waste on the floor of his daughter’s home in March, leading to charges this week against two sisters from Northbrook for criminal neglect of an elderly person. Werner Bernhard had apparently been lying on the floor for one week when police were called to the scene March 16, according to Lisa Gordon, a spokesperson for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. He was taken to Glenbrook Hospital and remained under medical care until he passed away Thursday. Northbrook emergency responders came to the home on High Point Lane because Werner’s wife called 911, saying he was unable to get up. “There were indications of neglect at the scene, so we started an investigation immediately,” Northbrook …

I can't imagine that these two women will be coming up with any kind of story at all - it is fairly evident what happened here...the social security payments the old man got would have gone to a nursing facility along with whatever paltry cash the sisters managed to save while leeching off their parents, and they didn't want THAT to interfere with their lifestyles, whatever twisted nonsense THEY …   more ›
