Schneider Joins Bipartisan Effort to Extend Debt Ceiling

Rep. Brad Schneider joins 84 other House Democrats and 199 Republicans to pass a bill opposed by Rep. Jan Schakowsky, 143 other Democrats and 33 Republicans.

Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) were on opposite sides of a bipartisan vote today extending the nation’s debt limit through May 19 in the House of Representatives. The final vote was 285 to 144 with Schneider joining 84 other Democrats and 199 Republicans to send the bill to the Senate for action. Schakowsky was one of 111 Democrats and 33 Republicans voting no. Earlier: Schneider, Schakowsky Give Back to Honor King Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said the upper chamber would vote on the measure, according to Roll Call. Schakowsky's Job Bill Faces GOP Fire

The 9th District lawmaker introduced a $227 billion proposal that she estimates will create as many as 2.2 million jobs.

With the economy struggling, the markets extremely volatile and the debt limit debate still stinging, U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) was aiming to put a focus back on job creation last Wednesday. But her $227 billion proposal will face stiff opposition even her most ardent of supporters concede.
