Tropical Storm Isaac Expected to Cause Gas Price Increase

Northbrook may be safe from the wind and rain, but AAA officials said Tropical Storm Isaac -- soon expected to become Hurricane Isaac -- may cause average gas prices to rise 10 cents a gallon nationally.

Tom Kloza, chief analyst for the Oil Price Information Service, which tracks gas prices for AAA, estimated that the national gas price average could increase by 10 cents because Gulf of Mexico oil rigs are shutting down in preparation for Tropical Storm Isaac, CNN reports. Though Kloza also thinks the prices should go down fairly quickly after the storm.  The national news arrived on the heals of a recent Chicago Tribune report that Chicago has the highest gas prices in the country.  The cheapest unleaded gas available in Northbrook, as of Tuesday afternoon, is $4.12 per gallon, at the Marathon. The price might inch toward $4.25 by Labor Day.
