United Methodist Church Supports Gay/Straight Alliance

Northbrook's United Methodist Church hung a sign in solidarity of Glenbrook North's Gay/Straight Alliance.

Northbrook's United Methodist Church hung a sign on their front lawn Saturday, showing solidarity for Glenbrook North's Gay/Straight Alliance.

The high school group was talk of the town on Friday when Northbrook's Caribou Coffee removed a decoration the GSA painted on the cafe's window for homecoming week

"An important part of our ministry is being welcoming to all people," said Melissa Early, the church's Pastor. "We wanted to put a sign up to let the community know that we are supportive of what the GSA is doing at Glenbrook North."

Early said at least one community member that does not attend the church has called them to complain about their sign, and she politely explained the church's attitude towards sexual orientation.

"An important part of our ministry is being welcoming of all people," Early said. "We believe that's what God wanted us to do."

"A lot of us still drink Caribou, we're not trying to make a statement against Caribou. We want to be inclusive of the GSA," she added.
