“Journey of Hope” Bike Team Visit, July 15. The Y will welcome a Push America bike team for a stopover on their annual cross-country trip to raise awareness and support for individuals with special needs. Kids with special needs and their families are invited to join the team for games, food, and fun. For more information, contact Sari Glazebrook, sglazebrook@nsymca.org.

“The Sandlot” Under the Stars, July 26. Our Summer Cinema series continues on Saturday, July 26 with the classic kids’ favorite, “The Sandlot”. Bring out your picnic blanket – we supply the popcorn. Our series sponsors, The Northbrook Tower/22nd Century Media, will be on hand to share in the fun. Free for members; non-members are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Northfield Township Food Pantry. Summer Party at the Y, August 7. Mark your calendar for our annual summer celebration and cookout. Fun for the whole family, including facepainting, bouncehouses, music, and more. Summer Camps are now underway – don’t miss the fun! The Y offers top-quality day camps to satisfy every need. Many sessions are already filled; register NOW to secure the remaining spots. “Painting with Wine and Friends” is continuing throughout the summer on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Classes will be held 7/17 and 8/21 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Community Gallery – Photographs by Bill Sanders. Local artist Bill Sanders returns to the Y’s Community Gallery with a new show of portraits and other photographic artwork, on display through the month of July. Artwork purchases support YMCA programs.

Kindergarten Club registration open for Fall 2014. Do you have a child in half-day kindergarten? Enrich their experience with the Y’s Kindergarten Club extension program! Kindergarten Club creates a fun, full-day experience to support your child’s social and academic development. Afternoon sessions are available, including transportation to/from public schools in Northbrook  as well as St. Norbert’s. Hot lunches, snacks, and even swim lessons are all included! Learn to Swim Now for Summer Fun and Safety! Water safety is crucial during the summer, and the Y has been teaching kids to swim for over a century. Free Fitness Assessment for Members. Schedule your free fitness assessment today with a member of our health and wellness team! Women’s Self Defense Class. Learn practical self defense skills in a safe, comfortable environment. Exercise Connection, a leader in physical fitness training for individuals with special needs, now offers a fitness course for youth and adults with autism spectrum disorders at the North Suburban Y. Classes focus on core skills including body image, posture, motor coordination, muscular fitness and cardiovascular fitness.  The class is taught by Laura Fine, Northbrook resident and Director in Training for Exercise Connection. Ready for a Break? The Y is proud to offer professional massage services from Align Wellness Center. Appointments are available for 25 minute or 55 minute sessions in our comfortable Health Center, adjacent to our adult locker rooms. Sign up for appointments at the Y front desk.
